From what I've been able to learn, the size of CMSF PBEM files range from about 4 to 5 MB on the small end (about the same size as our largest multiplayer CMBB Lost Victories movie files) all the way up to 22 MB. See post #5:

Certainly the size of the files can present some playability issues for many due to current limitations for email attachments.
