At a Game Stop (owned by EB Games) CMSF has hit the bargain bin at $19.99, down $20 from its earlier price. I picked up one of the two copies that they had in a north Austin store. The young (I guess that's almost anyone except the Wal-Mart greeters for me now) man told me that they just lowered the price today.

Hmmm and after such great initial reviews, I wonder why...

Really, after releasing a bomb of a game out of the box to horrid reviews did BFC actually expect the public mass (read players NEW to CM) to be eagerly awaiting a patch, then a second patch then more patches to make it playable?

Fact is the "public," which BFC was hoping to attract, has moved on to other titles. "Bargain Basement" CMSF games will not attract the mass numbers needed to save it. The only people now buying CMSF are old CM'ers who have followed the game & were waiting for a price drop & patches in hopes they made a decent game of it.

It's a sad affair which can only hurt the CM cause and hopes of future investment in improved CM-WWII versions. BFC tried but they didn't listen to their own base.

That's my question, is it worth getting at even that price? From what I'm hearing I'm wondering if they will ever get it patched up to working correctly?

In 2 months it will be a 5.99 game, I'll get a few of them myself, the coffee table is slightly wobbly and a disk or 2 should shim it up quite nicely...

I'll not buy it for a dime. I prefer to bask in the glory of having proclaimed it would be a flop a full year before the release. Come on Battlefront! get back to the real war!

Keep an eye on the upcoming "reviews" on the forums about the long delayed and yet to be issued version 1.05 patch. Battlefront is supposed to come out with a new demo in that version. We'll see.

It's not "bitching" it's telling it like it is. :P

The damage has been done, the "big premier" of CMSF bombed same as a movie. And just like a movie showing up in Walmarts bargin bin with "added" bonuses (patches in this case) will not make it a winner: playable maybe but not wildly popular as BFC hoped.

Releasing new patches & demos (while good) will only attract players who already know CM & the CMSF story not the big numbers of new players they wanted & need. No one is gloating over this, it hurts the CM cause for everyone and the chances for a "better" CM WWII version.

Just take a look at the three compilation of review scores on CMSF on this thread:

http://www.gamesquad.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69815

All three still show the game in the mediocre range of the "60's". Gamers were even more critical in their ratings on these sites.

Patches may make it a decent game over time. But the cow is already long out of the barn. I hope Battlefront's record setting arrogance and screw-ups with the CMSF release is something they can recover from and allow them to release better games on much more compelling subjects. Their claim that CMSF is already their best seller is a bit of a con. They were a web sales only company when they first released most or all of the CM x 1 titles. In CMSF they get out of the chute with a distribution partner. Yet who did they pick? Yes, it was Paradox, who has a history of wanting the game released on schedule--regardless of whether it's done or not.

Well; they went from ww2 and the fan base they had there to a modern war that was quickly put out and this is the only result; poor sales.
