Shadows over Camelot looks like an awesome game. The gang at Boardgamegeek.com gave it a 7.5 out of 10 stars. In most games, players compete against each other to achieve victory. Shadows over Camelot proposes a journey of a very different kind, where you and your fellow players, as Knights of the Round Table, will collaborate to jointly defeat... the game!

In the box you will find:
-) 1 Master gameboard of Camelot and the Round Table, with its surrounding Quests;
-) 3 additional Double-sided Quests (Gameboards) (the Holy Grail, Excalibur, and Lancelot & the Dragon);
-) 16 Swords of the Round Table;
-) 168 cards;
-) 7 Coat of Arms (one per Knight);
-) 7 standard dice (one for each Knight) and 1 special 8-sided die for the Siege Engines;
-) a Rules Booklet and the Book of Quests;
-) 30 Miniatures (7 Knights, 3 Relics, 12 Siege Engines, 4 Saxon and 4 Pict warriors).

DOW has since released an expansion to the original game called "A Company Of Knights". It is eight highly detailed hand painted Knights for use with the game for those of you who cant paint and want more life-like figures. I must they they look beautiful. You can check them out their website.

This looks great. So it's totally co-operative? This may solve my gaming issues with my wife. I like the sounds of this. Do you know anyone who has played this?

Well to answer your questions....

Ive never played it, but i do have a friend who has some friends who own it and play it all the time. {They whiney guy who i used to play knights of catan with} As a matter of fact they have stopped playing everything in their gaming group except SOC. Thats how much they are addicted to it.

The game is totaly Co-op except there is one player who in the course of each game becomes "The Traitor". That in itself is part of the plot line of each game. Only no one knows who it is from game to game. For example one of the Knights in the game get the "Loyalty" quest and one the "Traitor" quest to complete. Each has to lay a certain # of white swords or black swords on the round table to win by the end of the game or the traitor can surround Camelot with 12 Siege Engines to win as well. All this has to be done undetected of course.

After further reading John the "Traitors" quest isnt a given thing in each game. Its only a possibility. Its there as a plot line to keep the Knights on their toes and to be on the alert to the possibility of a Traitor. But Falsely accusing a Knight of being a Traitor and subsequently finding out that he isnt so isnt exactly a good thing for the comradere of the round table!

In one of the reviews i read online tonight John the writer had this to say about the possibility of the "Traitor" being in the group - ".....this additional tension makes the game a riotous experience, and great fun, any simple mistake, any action that even looks slightly dodgy will get the other players looking at you with the question in their eyes 'are you a traitor?'."

LOL, sounds like a blast to me.

This game looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for giving such a great preview.

Especially since I don't D&D anymore. God I miss role playing sometimes. My wife thinks it's UTRAGEEK and I don't know anyone around who does it anymore. I used role play in highshool. AD&D, Robotech and Marval Superheros mostly.

Dude, i have about $3,000 in D&D & AD&D & 2nd addition rules stuff. I used to be a role playing whore. We used to live action role play back in the day. I've never really played, i was always the DM. The closest i got to being a player was being NPC's and Monsters.

It was weird. I had one group of friends i role played with, and a totally different one i played Avalon Hill war games with. Each group thought i was nuts for hanging with the other, but still accepted me at the same time. Go figure. I was always good at crossing boundaries and hanging with and being accepted by any crowd.
