I have only played Sid Meyers games on the computer.
Anyone know of any other quality Civil War games out there?
They dont have to full of "eye candy" just fun and high quality.
I would really like to look into some.

The game is by Paradox Interactive. It's going to be released very soon. April 18th It's getting high marks from reviewers.

It's called "TAKE COMMAND" Second Manassas

It has a one page advertisement in my recent PC Lamer.

I have Gettysberg. AI is kind of dumb but has a strong following and very good pbem at the Civil War Club. As far as I know it allows the largest most "strategic" treatment of the battles. Game play is very similar to panzer campaigns.

At first look the "Take command "
game looks very cool like a slower Rome with muskets.
Anyone who is into The War of Northern aggression should
take a look at the demo

Too bad the game is solo
and not multiplayer. Still the demo was kick ass.
Felt very real way better than rome battles
slower but ungodly sized map with a pretty cool fog of war.

I have been playing the "Take Command" 1st Bull Run and the 2nd Manassas
demos and boy have they knocked my socks off. Excellent gameplay (even hours of time in just demos) Its a blast trying to move a few Brigades around
trying to co-ordinate a Division with artillery support its just amazing.
Only flaw is that its solo play with no Multiplayer (Was dying to flank soldier and break his Texans)
Unless you are dilligent and galloping all over field your su-ordinate commanders make descisions on their own =)
definately worth a look.(atleast the demos)
Im buying the games

Next Im going to try some of the HPS games

The wargamer did an extensive review of the game back when it came out. They gave it great marks and said its a great game. It also won the readers choice for game of the year over at the wargamer, so id definately check it out if i were you. Heres the link to the review -

Having putz about with the demo it seems like a fun game to play. Wish there were MP available. Buy the full version and give MM publishers the capital needed to make an MP module.

These games would be sick beyond compare If they had Multiplayer especially multi-multiplayer similar to RTW.
I have purchased both just waiting for them to arrive.
They are non-existant in the stores around here and the 1st one is out of production.

This game sounds interesting but too bad about the lack of MP. Here is an interesting thread in their forum regarding MP functionality:

Also, here is a link to the upcoming HistWar game from Battlefront:

http://www.battlefront.com/products/les_grog/index.html

It is Napoleonic and definitely offers MP. Maybe this would be a good one too.

I along with soldier have been watching and waiting on Les Grognards for nearly a year now. It also is very promising but has the same lack of cash and only a few programmers that TC2M has =(

I have DL'd the 2 demos and i love them. This is a very cool series of games. Easy to control your units and great fun, what else are you waiting for? What could be more fun than killing Inbred Southerners anyhow? Go get the demos now!

Well Routing Texans controlled by Soldier or Jag , Routing Pennsylvanians controlled by Kent or Koz and for me you can either rout Ohioans or Tennesseeans(SP?) that would be a total blast. But the demos rock I cant wait for the game to arrive in the mail since I cant seem to find it anywhere I went ahead and ordered it =)

Frye's in Austin has a small stack of the first game: "The Battle of Bull Run Take Command: 1861" under the History Channel banner.

Any KG member who who wants a copy and can't get one locally at a decent price, I can pick one up (as long as supplies last) and send it to you (in the US) for $20 total. Just let me know your address and that a $20 check is coming, and I'll pick up a copy for you by Friday this week. With my wife's assistance, I should be able to get them in the mail by early next week.
