Raise the Stars and Bars. Call up the Second Wisconsin, the Iron Brigade and all of Gibbons' troops. Yes--its 1861--1865 the Fight to Preserve the Union aka the War of Northern Aggression!

Strange math Kent--the poll results look like they were calculated by the DNC or the RNC!
Hey wait--Swamp voted four times. What do you think this is--Louisiana?

No hanging chads here, I couldnt possibly narrow it down to 3.
And to Jag, Mr Iron Brigade himself, yea the Black hats ruled, almost as good as the 1st of Minnesota. The first federalized unit in the Grand Army of the Potomac.
3 cheers for McClellan, the best general the south ever had.......

I voted for WW1, Cold War & Modern War.
After reading my very first book on WW1, "The Guns of August", courtesy of KG_Soldier, I was hooked on WW1. What an incredible history to learn about.
Cold War- The build up between the Soviets & Nato & all the "what-if's", scenarios such as the Fulda Gap, have always fascinated me.
Modern War- technology at it's best.

Aside from his drinking and turning his HQ area into a brothel, IMHO Hooker wasnt as bad a General as people make him out to be.

Please! Lee at Chancellorsville leaves 25,000 men to face Hooker's main force of over 75,000 men while Lee authorizes Jackson to flank march Jackson's entire corp of over 15,000 men on a 15 mile semi-circle march to strike Hooker's open flank. Hooker's other flank is closed simply because it is anchored at the river. His open flank is inexcusable and his unwillingness to attack Lee's shell force in front of him is inexcusable.
His inaction makes Jackson's flank attack one of the greatest attacks in history, an attack which violates one of the central tenets of warfare -- never separate your force in the face of a numerically superior opponent.
The only reason Hooker's force is not completely routed is that Jackson underestimates the amount of time it will take to flank Hooker's force, and doesn't arrive for the attack til late afternoon.

I actually think I got the numbers of Lee's and Jackson's respective forces flip-flopped which makes Hooker's inaction even worse!

If I am not mistaken, that is where the term "foot Calvary" came from.
Jackson's flanking move was, and still is, studied as a war of movement action.
Hooker's plan was actually quite good, he used deceptive methods to confuse the rebs on his intentions, positioned his troops superbly, he was in a position to hand Lee a serious defeat.
He was a hard drinking man who stopped drinking at the start of the battle; he then lost his nerve, panicked, and fled his superior position. Perhaps he should have never stopped drinking.

I should of been more specific in what i was talking about. I was refering to his abilities as in comparison to the other early war union generals that were flops. General such as McClellan and Burnside were much worse in their mistakes than Hooker. The failure to win the day at Anteitam with its disasterous bridge attack that should of never been allowed to go in & the stupidity of Fredricksburg come to mind. Yes its true that Hooker was no Grant or Sherman, but he wasnt a Ewell or Burnside either. Just my .02 cents.

Hey, aren't we forgetting the setting of CMx2--future wars?
I accually wanted like 17 options for this poll. I was however stuck with the forum defalt of only being able to have 10 options. Therefore I was limited to what i could and could not list for options. I would place a vote for modern wars and state that that vote included future wars and stated Syria, Iran ect... as the area of interest.
