I heard rumors of COD2 Expansion.... look out for him to bring it up!

But then again, Rob NOT bitching...... IMPOSSIBLE!

Alright, I played some RO today for about an hour or so...... My first impression? Meh..... I didn't really find anything AMAZING, or really that interesting for that matter. Personally I know this is going to be one of those things I learn over time, but the controls suck. I don't know who got the impression that setting "I" as the button for looking through the sights was a good idea (Middle scroller on the mouse does the same thing too). Overall controls are just quite different from other FPS'.

We will see, maybe I will get a better impression tommorrow :/

Its not like you can't change the controls in the options menu.

I like it but its not anything groundbreaking, if it weren't for the tanks I probably wouldn't be all that into it.

Thats NOT very indearing to the game especially to those of us that are waiting for a verdict.... So far all the forums & message boards are filled with A LOT of UNHappy people... and from the 15-20 mins I listened to Lubeek ( who is he by the way, a recruit?) SSpoom, Scout talk, I don't see myself buying it anytime soon if at all...

Sounds like the all the gusto was in the marketing of it and they didn't use any in the game.....

The potential to set up our own server and play two per tank 3 tanks per side battles is really enticing. The tanks are really fun (if on ts) because the gunner and driver must communicate constantly. No doubt, the infantry part of this game is a little strange, but that may be just DoD lag. The snipers are pretty cool and different. It's probably worth buying just to play the tank battles. C'mon Andy, me and you bro'--in our own tank--lighting up Rob and Stu again and again! Hurry, we need practice so we can NOOB Rob after Lent.

Just a note, but this is going to take a bit longer than I though, RO uses a completely different "engine" than the rest of the Steampowered games, so its therefore completely different in setting up a server....

KG_SSpoom

The tank battles are a riot and so far they seem to be the best in tank action of all the shooters BF DC CODUO they take a lot of team work and communication. If you get a tank crew and a few infantry for mobile eyes the game is a blast!.
Hell I knocked out a tiger and a PZ4 with sachel charges =)
Tossed 1 right on the rear deck of the tiger and it drove away to have it hurt by the charge layingon the engine deck. I finished it off by tossing one underneath right before it squished me =)
You can go un buttoned as Tank commander and scan field with binoculars looking for targets, button up when you see one and knock it off at super long range =) Tigers and Isu s shrug off glancing shots while pz4s brew up on any thing direct - very cool as the armor seems to have excellent characteristics suitable for each model
Tigers PZ4s Panthers Stugs Halftracks, Armored cars for Russian T-34/85s JS1s KVs problably more models. They dont stop on a dime you have to really coomunicate to be effective =) Tons of Possibilities =)
I dig it

after the 10 year download.... I played last night with Soldier, I had a lot of fun in the tanks even though I was learning on the fly, because who reads the manuals.....just give me the damn game! I learned some tanks don't stop at all even after they have no throttle....and some tanks just slow down.... the heavier the tank the more it stops when you want it to pretty much but the T-60's it's like riding in a car with no brakes!

I was not impressed at ALL with the infantry battles..... I beleive the fun will come when we have our own server and can lock it and have tank battles intra KG.... Soldier and Me vs. whoever! just not 3 vs. 1 thats all I ask..... Last night Soldier and I got into a melee with 3 other tanks ( 2 PZ3 or 4's and one Stug, we were able to get off 3 quality shots before we were blown to bits....)

You can change how the throttle on the tanks works in your options. Turn off the incremental throttle...

When you let off the key the tank will stop on its own.

KG_SSpoom

Cool about the throttle I didnt know that. I guess I should look at the manual a bit. Im sure it would help with the German sight optics.

Well it will only go when you hold the drive button, then stop when you let go...

I guess the only drawback is its either go or stop, no speed inbetween.

SSpoom and I had some pretty good runs yesterday taking out multiple pieces of armor everytime we spawned...we probably would have done better if my driving didn't suck so bad... hopefully it will improve.

Getting pwned like a n00b, eh? Something about jumping around like a CS / DoD-er that just doesn't mix with RO. I LOVE it! :bawling:

Something about patience, something about being methodical and coordinated. Something about having to *gasp* remember to chamber another round in a bolt action rifle after you fire one! Or is it perhaps not actually having a digital read-out telling you exactly how many rounds you have left in your vintage WW2 SMG having to instead remember what Dirty Harry said, "... was that 5 shots or 6 shots. Do ya feel lucky, punk?" Maybe its that when you reload your magazine fed weapon when the current magazine is only half used up, that magazine stays half used up when you place it in your pouch. No wait, I got it! It's not being able to hold your rifle absolutely and completely still even when in your sights (that *gasp again!* don't give you a cyborg zoom!) unless you have a surface on which to prop your rifle! Imagine that!

ROFLMAO! I knew we were going to hear from the usual suspect when a little realism was finally interjected into an FPS.

KG_SSpoom
03-23-2006, 05:04 PM
I would say the pure Infantry battles alone are not what most FPS gamers are used to, but that being said they are much more realistic. The Infantry model really shines when used WITH the Tanks and other vehicles.

KG_CrimsonTrooper
03-23-2006, 05:18 PM
What you call realism I call shoddy workmanship.... they obviously spent more time with the Tanks than anything else in the game. Obviously you haven't played many infantry only maps becuase if you have, then you would see the poor quality of gameplay. When a russian can RUN not walk and hold down the trigger on his ppsh and waffle (like people can in the MOHAA series games) back and forth and shoot with accuracy somethings wrong. I have also have seen where people have literally been running in circles while shooting and hitting everything they see... A ppsh is not going to kill at 100-150 meters ( yes you get lucky but come on dude...)

The ONLY realism I see is with regard to the tanks... You need to read the forums if you think I am the ony one that thinks that the infantry was half-assed.They could fill up volumes of others like me who think this game isn't all that.... Don't even get me started on the grenades either...

The only "REAL" thing about RO infantry is there is no firing receticle ( i know I butchered that spelling) your either firing blind so to speak or having to go to the iron sights ( That I actually like )

Panzerfausts, walking up/sneaking up to a T34/85 or an IS2 and having to fire 3 to kill the tank when your directly behind it.... can you say BS! YES, yes you can!

In MY opinion ( because GOD knows you have one ) the only redeeming thing about this game are the Tank Battles period, if there were only infantry battles in this game I would have unistalled it in the first couple of days....

I will go on record for everyone to see, Rob the Greatest player EVER!

Feel better.....good

Oh come now, Andy. I never said I was any good...

Let's come to an agreement on one thing first. If the game is played in the spirit it is created, ie. no waffling, etc. the interjection of the ideas I outlined in my prior post is most certainly a breath of fresh air. I will be the first to say that there needs to be some work on the actual implementation of the model used ie. Tiger rounds bouncing off of T-34s in too great of frequency, the weak armor of the Tiger and incredibly slow reload times, among others. I have been able to kill most tanks with 1 or 2 very well placed faust shots in the proper areas; rear engine deck and sides of T-60s and T-34s. Ya just have to be damn sure of your shot.

I think that you may have run into some pretty shady stuff on whatever server you happened to be on when you saw that PPsH thing. I won't stay on those servers. It isn't worth my aggravation. That being said, just because you run into a couple of schmucks doesn't mean you pitch the baby with the bath water.

KG_Soldier
03-24-2006, 12:02 AM
Well... I think "realism" is a little overstated there Mr. AGC. There's nothing "realistic" about this game other than the decent job done on the tank models. The all infantry battles lack any kind of excitement. I'm sorry, but they are very slow.

The game does need some major work: the lean needs to be taken out of the infantry models, the tank models need to be tweaked, the amount of arty is kind of silly at times, maps need to last longer than ten minutes, and you need to get your ass playing so I can blow you up.

All in all, I like the game because of the tanks. I agree with Andy; without the tanks, I'd have already uninstalled it.

KG_AGCent
03-24-2006, 12:51 AM
Perhaps it's a difference of perspectives then. I can't stand the run-around-jump-HEADSHOT from 269 feet in mid air spraying an Uzi from the hip. That is DoD and CS. I don't call that exciting. You do. That's perfectly OK with me. I call it assinine.

The artillery frequency is a server setting that can be modified or zeroed out even. I happen to like the more thoughtful and deliberate approach needed to be successful with RO infantry. Baksan Valley was quickly becoming a favorite of mine as was Stalingrad.

Out of the 400-500 servers I would say that maybe only a handful are decent and those are the ones where not many people play on.....
