Stu roped me into a 10,000 pt ME slugfest in May '45 CMAK on a custom map of his own design. We started by selecting 5000 pts unrestricted, saving the game then importing the map with units on it on another 5000 pt game Combned arms Infantry.

Gentlemans rules;

850 pts maximum artillery plus organics
Stu won't buy 10,000pts worth of M-18s

On the first round I bought;

1.plt Crack Panther Gs
1.plt Vet Panther Gs
1.plt Reg Hetzers
1.plt Reg Mk4Hs
1.plt Vet Stugs 3s
1 Semovante M43 105/25
2 x 150mm spotters
2 x 105 Spotters

Round 2 I got;

1.Bn Grenadier 45 (16 HMG42, 81mm, 120mm spotters and 4 - 75mm IGs)
1.Bn Jaeger Aufklarung (16 HMG42, 81mm spotter and 2 - 75mm IGs and 4 - 75mm PaK40s)
1.Bn Fusilier 44 (12 HMG42, 81mm and 120mm spotters and 4 - 75mm IGs)
5 more PaK40s
4 quad 20mm
7 gun trucks
2 251/1s
1 LMG-34

So all told I have a regiment of infantry, a short battalion of armor and a crapload of artillery. He has an airplane which I don't as it is May 45...

My plan is to make a PaK front with the ATs and IGs to cover an approach with one infantry Bn allowing me to better focus my armor. I will take all the armor and 2 Bns and attempt to turn a flank and roll it up.

The map is someting like 2 miles deep by 3 miles wide. We set the game to 90 turns so we aren't rushed to do what we want and need to accomplish our plans.

Oh and, yes, this IS a ladder game.

So is this being played on the CMAK map that never materialized into the CMAK MP game that was promised KG so long ago?

Hey... it was Stu's idea. How can I let him pass up this kind of pain?

No. Thats my map. I just dont have the vast amounts of time required to invest in the multiplayer game right now.

OK, Stu is done with his set-up. Took him most of 4 days. I did mine in about 90 minutes... Outlined are my first objectives. I am going to smash the right flank taking and holding 2 small and 1 large VL then I will attempt to turn his flank. The center forces are made up of 12 - PaK40 AT guns and 6 - 75mm IGs. Their only mission is to find and fix the enemy. I don't care how many tanks they kill, just hold the enemy up, make him use valuable artillery assets and maybe make him slide off to the right just in time to get hammered by my assault force.

The Hetzers are going in first and trying to gain local superiority or at least parity in order that the HTs and Gun Tractors can slide by with their cargo. I have only 10 of these vehicles so 2 trips are going to be needed to get all guns into the area. 18 guns concentrated in such a small area cannot be ignored. This will put pressure on the 2 center large VLs. If I am able to take those and hold onto the VLs on the right, I will have enough to win.

Turn 2, things begin just fine minor traffic jams along the road to my PaK front. Then a P-38 Lightning comes swooping in and launches four rockets at some of my Panthers. They miss but cause the mounted troops to jump off. No big deal. However! What has me a little scared is the fact that I have 6 20mm Quad flaks set up directly behind my armored advance and this P-38 moves so fast that my guns are unable to turn, track and engage the airplane quick enough. I hope he didn't get a 12 pass plane....

Well, we at turn 30. Sorry about the lack of updates but... for 30 turns I have not had to deviate from my original plan to any significant degree. I have successfully turned Panthers flank and have begun to sweep in. The Red arrows were routes of travel for the respective infantry groups, about a battalion of infantry on each group. Blue arrows are armored movement.

I have lost 3 hetzers, a Stu42, a Panther and 4 Mk4s. Almost no infantry casualties as yet. i have lost a majority of the AT guns and IGs to determined DF-HE from a gaggle of M-7s (at least 2 platyoons worth) at the heavy woods area. Luckily I only had about 6 guns pointed to this area. The rest made it into the scattered tree area directly behind that area. I have put the kabosh on any attempt to round the top of the vineyard area my HTs had to go through to make it to their drop off points. I have lost all but 1 couple gun tractors and still have 2 guns back in the staging area that need to be placed. Don't know what I am going to do woth them yet.

I have one Panther that has just kicked ass so far. He has picked off 3 tanks with single shots from about 2000 yards, Easy-8 76mms no less. The 75L70 is a gem of a weapon in the hands of an Elite crew.

The Yellow arrow are directions of advance I am intending to make with my infantry. The yellow hedgehog is infantry and IGs that are going to hold that flank against the river with a plt of Crack Panthers as back up.

Of the armor of Stu's I have seen I have left only 3 tanks alive. I have killed at almost 2 platoons of M-18s (I think he has one M-18 left) and nine 76mm Shermans of various model. The Mk4s just didn't stand up to anything. 57mm AT guns at distance easily penetrated frontal plates (both 57s which have popped up have died the next turn.)

I will be in no hurtry to advance my armor as they are in prime overwatch position. Tehy probably won't make a move until my infantry have cleared out their next woods objectives of any waiting bazookas. I have 90 turns with which to make deliberate, coordinated advances and I intend to use all of it I may need.

Stu has one M-18 making what looks to be a wide flanking manuever. I have 3 crack StuGs waiting for him to pop up somewhere. Piecemeal has been Stu's downfall with armor in this game.

I have posted the latest movie for your viewing pleasure pw= ak0

I always buy Stug's over Mk IV's, i just dont have any luck with Mk IV's. Low riding and hard to hit, i just love Stug's. Plus they are cheaper than Mk IV's. I never realized how low a profile they have until i stood beside one at Aberdeen, them and Hetzers.
