I got COD2 and although the game looks awesome it is running like crap on my computer. Its really choppy in both single player and multiplayer modes. I have a 128mb ATI radeon express 200 integrated graphics card (which uses the radeon x300 chipset), games like Battlefield 2 and DOD:Source run fine.

Any thoughts before I have to go out and drop some more money on a new graphics card?

My game only occasionally slowed but that was after I had probably 60 people running around with 3 or 4 pieces of armor were in the playing field... but only for a short time.

Turn off you Anti-Virus software and other non-essential programs.

Taken from activision help forum It is extremely important to have the most recent drivers installed before running Call of Duty 2. All major hardware vendors have released new drivers right before Call of Duty 2’s release to address performance and compatibility issues. Even if you’ve updated your drivers in the past month or so, please check for new updates again, as they have most likely been updated.

It is also extremely important to ensure you have the latest drivers and firmware for your motherboard components as well. Please contact your hardware manufacturer for instructions on how to acquire and apply the latest updates.

In addition, do not select a video quality higher than the game auto-detects your system to be able to run, otherwise performance will suffer. Call of Duty 2 will automatically configure itself to run at a setting optimal for your system. Furthermore, the following options can be disabled from the Options - Graphics menu:

1.Anti-Aliasing
2.Soften Smoke Edges
3.Shadows

While the game is designed to have these options enabled by default, they can be disabled to increase performance.

Thanks for the info I got it working better. Not great but good enough to play.

Was it due to drivers?

A little bit of both. I think turning off the anti-aliasing, smoke, and shadows did more than the drivers.

Oh okay, thanks Mark. I am planning on purchasing COD2 once the price comes down some, I'm trying to save some $

Andy, I'm honestly not sure if I saw it or not... I might have seen it, but not had the $$ at the time. I'll keep my eyes peeled ;)

Depending on when you want it, I can try and pick up another copy ( I bought it for $30.00 even ) and proably cost you $5 to ship it to you..

The offers there if you want it.

For now I'm going to hold off, I will probably get a gift certificate for christmas, and I'll just use that to buy it.

Thanks
