I couldn't find the Film & Book Forum so I am posting here to comment on the recent review in the Book Review Forum. I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It is always interesting to see things from the "other" side of the war. I thought the corduroy trails and rail systems used to facilitate transport through the marshes of the Volchov Front to be very interesting.

My favorite part of the book was the description of the fighting around Sevastapol.

The only draw back about German war memoirs for me is that it is hard to tell if the story teller is distorting the truth about genocide. In this instance Bidermann claims his unit was in the dark about attrocites committed in the rear and it makes one wonder. However I am sure the descriptions of his experiences and his comrades are genuinely heart felt and I found them to be a very good read.

A very good book indeed.

The books and films section of our forum is located in the private, more extensive part of the KG forum, reserved for members only. FYI.

This book is in my personal library as well Norad. I love it. One of my favorite parts in the book is when the Soviet Naval infantry is about to overrun their posistion and they run out of anti-personnel rounds for their 37mm PAK and they start shooting anti-tank rounds at individual soldiers. They basicly turn the PAK into a 37mm sniper rifle/gun. That must of been very intense to say the least.
