Most of you probably don't realize this because you don't play scenarios against the AI, but KG_Thorshammer has designed what I'd consider to be the best scenario against the AI out there (in my humble opinion). It's set in Berlin at the end of the war and your goal is simply to stay alive for 55 turns against the relentless Russian hordes. It will test every skill you have as a CM player -- covered arcs, ammo conservation, fire discipline, unit placement.

GIVE IT A TRY -- YOU'LL BE HOOKED AFTER 10 TURNS OR YOUR MONEY BACK!

I finally survived Part 1 and my 260 remaining troops (with little ammo and even littler armor support) are preparing for a subsequent battle against the relentless Russian horde!

This scenario has an errie similarity to my TBF game!

... littler ...

Is that a word?

KG_Kharkov

Surprisingly, it is (from dictionary.com)

lit·tle ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ltl)
adj. lit·tler, or less (ls) also less·er (lsr) lit·tlest or least (lst)
Small in size: a little dining room. See Synonyms at small.
Short in extent or duration; brief: There is little time left.
Small in quantity or degree: little money.
Unimportant; trivial: a little matter.
Narrow; petty: mean little comments; a little mind consumed with trivia.
Without much power or influence; of minor status.

littler
adj : small or little relative to something else [syn: smaller]

Jag, it's way more fun than your TBF game. Also, it will feel like an entirely different map from TBF -- don't ask why, but for some reason it does because it you play it from an entirely different perspective.

Wow... now that I have verified the linguistic correctness of Kharkov's post I may now enjoy the aforementioned scenario.

Agcent, you actually had me worried that "littler" wasn't a word. I had no fricking clue since "littler" doesn't make its way into too many business legal memos. I breathed a sigh of relief when I found it in dictionary.com!

Back to the case at hand -- TRY THOR'S SCENARIO -- I want to see how my performance compares to all of yours!

KG_ThorsHammer

it was the desperation of TBF that inspired me to create the scenario :)

The map suited the purpose just fine so i altered it a bit. It doesnt play like TBF though as there is a better chance of actually pulling out a victory, rather than seeing how the player handles an "impossible situation". Speaking of TBF I have been doing it again with kharkov lol.
This time however I added about 600 points worth of additional German units to give more of a chance, and about 15 more minutes.. its pretty bloody right now.

Schreck, send me and Dave a couple of your intermediate save files and the end file (plus your final set up). I'd love to see how you do and what the differences/similarities in our strategy are.

well i thought i was doing great.... at first, LOL. after carefully reading your breifing and taking heed to your hint that the enemy was coming from the south and the east, i figured what the hell, and paired off the tanks and placed them in the streets oriented in those directions. well at the opening bell i absolutely slaughtered the russian armor. i got real lucky placing my king tiger and my elephant together and having them facing the IS-2's. the panther and the jadgtiger were shooting down at the T-34/85's by the teirgarten. the jadgpanther shot up a bunch of SU-76's & the stug shot up another bunch of SU-76's. my inf is mainly concentrated back in the left center of the map in more or less "giant Ambush" posistion were there could be minimal fire brought on them by supporting russian tanks and i could try to keep it an infantry only battle. every thing was going fine until a bunch oh SU-122S's showed up exactly behind my Kingtiger and Elephant! well they are now dead to say the least. but not before they each killed like 6 or 7 tanks each. but the IS-122s's paid with their lives, the two lead tanks were taken out by the panther and the other 2 stumbled into the path of an elite SS panzerschreck team and died a horrible death before they had much time to celebrate. my stug then got killed by a couple of 76mm armed Shermans. my panther, jadgpanther and jadgtiger are now in the open near the teirgarten shooting up russian infantry and i just recieved some reinforcements. what looks to be like 3 tanks and a shot up company at first glance. thats were im at now.

hey John, i tried to send you the file but your email service bounced it back to me. that happens to me all the time, whats up with that?

anyhow dave has it so you can see it from turn 16 when you get it from him or me. please post all observations on the forum for all to see please. im curious as well to see how i stack up angainst everyone else.

I'll send him the file schrecky. Also, could you e mail files to my dbishop@mountaincable.net account, its better for me ..thanks :D

things look not bad for you! Take note that some units (like the company with the three tanks have desciptions of what they are in the names..this is also true if you get a single sniper for example..which carry a message

hey Dave got a quick question for you. lets say i ran a tank outta ammo, could i run it off the map to "save" it for the next part of the battle or is that to "gamey"?

KG_SSpoom

Im on turn 15 my Jagdpanther is dead my Jagdtiger is immobile
in a reasonably good spot but down to 9ap rounds.
Panther has around 60rds left and is fairly un engaged so far.
Elephant is down to 9 ap rounds stug is ok and King is retreating from
the strong point(88s) to where the rest of armor is(by the main trench line). I lucked out when the assault guns arrived and ambushed them point blank with the luftwaffe troops that arrived as re-enforcements.
All thin skinned vehicles are burning , 1of the halftracks did awesome
killing several tanks.

Good luck my friends. Things look bright at Turn 15. Wait til Turn 40 -- it's a bitch in the best way. You'll be clawing and scraping and praying and searching for ammo! Sspoom send me a few of your save files also.

Schreck are you using the right e-mail address, kg_kharkov@comcast.net? You may be using an old address that's autoarchived on your computer (such as an old work address or old home address).

I just checked Schreck's file and just realized you guys are playing the super tough original version that totally kicked my @ss. I finally beat it when Thor gave me the "Insider Trading" version which added a few units and strengthened the Southern strongpoint with wire and another AA gun.

Good luck!

Your Version is designed to keep the match hard for someone who has played it already and lost, as he knows basically how things go. Yes you have a few more units, but the Russians also have a LOT more units; your handful extra is just to make it not too impossible.

Schrecky, yeah,,thats gamey lol...the best thing to do is to hide him somewhere if you want to conserve ammo.

well im on turn 23 now and reinforcements for me continue to trickle in. i havent lost any infantry to speak of yet other than the odd man from a squad here and there and i havent lost any more AVF's, although i have lost the main gun on my Panther. :x  i have killed a few shermans with a couple of schreck teams and i continue to kill mountains of russian infantry. its like shooting fish in a barrel. though im sure all that could change anytime soon.

Hans Rudel and his Pals flew over for several turns and i heard lots of shell riccochets but i dont know if they did any good or not. a lot of my reinforcements are trapped on the far left side of the map because they cant risk crossing the streets due to russian tank fire. its killing me not being able to use that Tiger with 51 HE rounds. the cowardly russian tankists wont advance their armor up the streets anymore because they know their tanks will die in a hail of Schrecks, Fausts, Grenade Bundles ect.....

i have my platoon of Charlemagne SS boys outfront of everyone else in an advanced infantry ambush posistion in the "New Reichskanlei" building and they continue to rack up an unbeliveable amount of kills. so far they have killed 15 full infantry squads and one leader plus they made 2 infantry units "teleport" off of the map when they ambushed them at point blank range, LOL! :P check out the pic below for the body piles. the PC attacks so stupidly. but we all know that.

Not very many infantry casualties for sure, your armour has taken the teeth out of the enemies attack thus far, but look slike the SH#! is about to hit the fan!!

Well I made it to Turn 29 of Devoured by the Devil (Part 2) before my 61 good order troops and my PZIV surrendered to the enemy. I was proud of my boys who over the course of two battles inflicted 2800 casualties and destroyed over 100 vehicles. They gave it their all!

I played a slightly different version of Game 1 (because I wasn't good enough to beat the first version!) but I'm sure the experience will be similar for those of you playing now. I've grown pretty attached to my men and feel like I know the Berlin map inside and out!

KG_ThorsHammer
06-03-2005, 01:55 AM
well done,,do you have the end file for me to look at? :)

KG_Kharkov
06-03-2005, 09:59 AM
I'll try to send it this evening. I finished it up last night after I sent you the batch of intermediate files.

I'll probably try Devoured again with a different set up. I had Russian global morale on the ropes at 26%. Unfortunately mine hit a record low of 6% before my guys surrendered! BTW, a PZIV can take out an IS3 from the rear!

Without question, Dave's "In Hells Heart" is the most fun single player experience I've had playing CM. Get ready Bob; the action never stops! You really get a feel for how it must have felt to bleed the Russians white yet have them continue to come and come and come and come. I thought I did pretty well: lost all my armor (has anyone ever finished this scenario with any armor in tact?), but had a good bit of infranty left holed up in a hedgehog almost out of ammo but still killing Russians. Just wait till the **** show up!

KG_AirborneBob

Update: Turn 33 and I havent lost hope yet. most Tanks are now critically low on ammo...both 88's are out...lost several of the replacement tanks. But the Red Horde has faired much worse..most of their 'replacements" appear on top of my Infanrty and are dispatched quiye quickly (several with Flamethrowers :itsme:)..will post screen shots soon.
