Here's two articles discussing the specs for those of you who play console games:
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6124293/index.html
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/608/608394p1.html
Looks awesome -- I'm going to pre-order one when they start taking pre-orders.

I am going to sit and play on with my PS2, come next year the PS3 will be the Undisputed King considering it will have more than twice the power and performance than the Xbox 360.
Just my humble opinion.

My money's on Microsoft this time. They've made huge leaps in their penetration of the videogame market. Every console gamer I know now plays X-Box over PS2 including me. With a year head start and Halo 3 arriving to coincide with the PS3 launch, Sony won't have the leg up that it did when it rolled out PS2.
That said, I'm going to buy both! I have both X-Box and PS2 now so might as well keep up the tradition.

Can someone please tell me why anyone who already owns a computer and plays it regularly would even consider buying a console much less playing on one?

Because you can have buddies that live in your hometown over, drink beer and sit in your living room and game it up together without having to haul 600 pounds of equipment for a LAN party. Game selection is also relevant too -- the game types on console differ to some extent from those emphasized on PC.

My best gaming memories are console game related for that reason -- like returning a kick for a touchdown with no time left on the clock to beat my brother in Madden 2004, or beating Halo on Legendary with my other brother, or killing Iraqis by the boatload with my 3 buddies in Conflict Desert Storm -- being able to yell at the guy sitting next to you to grab the RPG because the T72 is about to light you up is unmatched.

Khar,
The PS3 will be out almost 6 months to the day after the X-Box 360 is made available..... And for TWICE the power including the most impressive video rendering on the planet to date....
You should see the video's they are simply amazing, as soon as I find a decent link I will post it.
NOTHING beats having 8 people playing Madden 2004, you talk about laying down the smack...... throw in some pizza and beer and the experience is VERY hard to beat.

Typical Viking fan!
Bill,
Being that we are dealing with someone who likes the Vikings....
PLUS hails from the Dakotas... the only thing he's used to seeing is gophers mating for his activities so I wouldn't hold his opionion of whats sports are to any high degree.

i can agree with Ag on some points and disagree on others. if i had the money id have a console for one reason, sports games. ever try playing a football game on a pc without a controller? its a keysmashing nightmare i tell you.
there is nothing in the world like drinking 5 cases of beer and having a tournament in madden with 8 of your best buddies whilst keeping your neighbors up til 6 in the morning!
